One of the hottest men in Hollywood, this Oklahoma-born blond appeared in a handful of TV-movies and guest spots before becoming an overnight sensation with his sexy supporting turn as a robber in Thelma & Louise in 1991. Pitt graduated to leading roles in the Western Legends of the Fall and the bloodsucking blockbuster Interview with a Vampire, both in 1994, prompting People magazine to crown him the "Sexiest Man Alive" the next year. Fearing the label would limit his career, Pitt took on intense, often offbeat roles that proved he was more than just a pretty boy, such as a mentally unstable animal rights activist in 12 Monkeys (which earned him an Oscar nod) and the leader of an underground society in Fight Club. Pitt was again voted People's "sexiest man alive" in 2000. Finally ready to embrace his hunk status, Pitt played a suave, suit-clad criminal in Ocean's Eleven and a stunning shirtless warrior in Troy. He was more often in the spotlight thanks to his high-profile romances, including broken engagements to actresses Juliette Lewis and Gwyneth Paltrow, and a seemingly perfect marriage to Jennifer Aniston that ended in 2005. She filed for divorce after rumors circulated that he had taken up with his Mr. & Mrs. Smith costar Angelina Jolie. In 2006, after months of tabloid coverage of "Brangelina" flying around the globe fighting for human rights and adopting children, the couple revealed that Jolie was pregnant with Pitt's child.

Stunning, smart and slightly insane, this Hollywood icon is known for romancing her costars, kissing her brother at the Oscars, exotic tattoos and commendable humanitarian efforts. The daughter of Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight, she first garnered attention as a high-school computer wiz in the film Hackers after which she married costar Jonny Lee Miller. Their marriage died in 1999 just when Jolie's career was heating up. She appeared in three films that year including the seriocomic Pushing Tin which introduced her to hubby No. 2, Billy Bob Thornton, and the mental-institution drama Girl, Interrupted, which earned her an Oscar. Subsequently, Jolie made a series of blockbusters (Lara Croft: Tomb Raider) and bombs (Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow), none of which made use of her considerable acting talents. After divorcing Thornton in 2003, Jolie devoted much of her time to working with refugees in impoverished countries and raising her adopted children. In 2005, around the time her action film Mr. & Mrs. Smith was released, rumors circulated that she and recently separated costar Brad Pitt were having an affair. Although they refused to confirm the relationship, they remained tabloid cover stars for months until Jolie finally admitted in early 2006 that she was pregnant with his child.

Pitt is likely "marking a transition or marking a new stage in his career," says Dr. Alan Peterkin, psychiatrist and author of One Thousand Beards: A Cultural History of Facial Hair, told Us last November.

The actor - who has frequently sported crazy beards throughout his career -- also may be "tired of being a part of one of the most beautiful couples in the world. He wants to try a new look," Peterkin said.

Peterkin told Us that a beard allows a man "to change his public face. Most men growing facial hair around his age are being ironic. It's a bit of a wink of the eye; 'I'm not taking this too seriously and nor should you.'"
